Wałbrzych Goes Green – Thousands of Trees for a Better Future
On April 29, 2025, Wałbrzych became even greener thanks to a large-scale tree planting initiative. The goal was to plant 4,000 beeches, 1,000 spruces, and 200 lindens and rowans—trees that will not only improve air quality but also become a lasting part of the local landscape for years to come.
Tree Planting – An Investment in the Future
Planting trees is one of the most important and effective ways to fight climate change. It’s also an investment in health, aesthetics, and the quality of life for future generations. The trees planted in Wałbrzych symbolize a commitment to the future—both locally and globally.
Beeches, known for their longevity and resilience, will form a green canopy over Wałbrzych for decades. Spruces are highly stable trees that thrive in mountainous conditions and are resistant to the challenges of a changing climate. Lindens and rowans, with their beautiful blossoms and fruits, not only enhance the landscape but also provide essential food for insects, birds, and small mammals, supporting local biodiversity.
Reclaimed Lands – Restoring Life to Nature
A portion of the newly planted trees was placed in post-industrial and degraded areas currently undergoing ecological reclamation. This is a crucial part of environmental action—not only does it restore natural beauty, but it also protects soil, supports rainwater retention, and rebuilds ecosystems damaged by human activity.
Reclaimed areas in Wałbrzych are a powerful example of how ecological efforts can go hand-in-hand with the revitalization of urban and post-industrial spaces. The new trees are not only a part of the landscape but also a symbol of renewal and a fresh start for nature. Bringing greenery back to places long deprived of life has profound environmental and social value.
The City’s Green Lungs – Health and Climate Benefits
Trees act as natural filters—they absorb carbon dioxide, clean the air of dust and toxins, and help lower temperatures during heatwaves, reducing the urban heat island effect. They also aid natural water retention, which is essential in combating drought and managing intense rainfall.
Tree planting is also an important educational tool—it helps residents understand the role nature plays in daily life. These kinds of events engage local communities and build a sense of responsibility for our shared environment.
Local Actions, Global Impact
Events like this in Wałbrzych demonstrate that local initiatives can have a global reach. Every tree planted brings tangible environmental benefits and symbolizes community engagement and care for our planet. Environmental awareness is growing year by year, and collective action is making a real difference.
