Planting 400 Trees with S&P Global in Gdańsk on April 24, 2025
On April 24, 2025, an inspiring environmental initiative took place in the Zaspa district of Gdańsk, organized by the One More Tree Foundation in collaboration with S&P Global. That day, 20 company employees, as part of their employee volunteering program, enthusiastically and energetically planted 400 oak trees, making a real contribution to increasing urban greenery and protecting the climate.
Change Starts Here and Now
In an era of increasing urbanization and accelerating climate change, planting trees in urban spaces is not only desirable but truly necessary. Cities like Gdańsk are grappling with rising temperatures, air pollution, and biodiversity loss. Green investments are one of the responses to these challenges, helping improve residents’ quality of life in the long term.
The initiative by S&P Global and the One More Tree Foundation not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of the area but also brings tangible ecological benefits: CO₂ absorption, improved air quality, increased water retention, and support for urban wildlife.
Why Oak Trees?
The oak is a tree with profound symbolism—long associated with strength, resilience, and wisdom. In urban greenery, it also has very practical advantages: it is resistant to harsh environmental conditions, copes well with pollution and drought, and provides habitats for numerous bird and insect species.
Planting 400 oak trees means 400 steps toward a healthier city. It’s 400 future shelters for wild animals, 400 natural air filters, and 400 reasons to believe that greenery can truly change our reality.
Employee Volunteering That Leaves a Lasting Impact
Modern employee volunteering goes far beyond symbolic gestures. In Gdańsk, S&P Global employees not only supported the initiative financially but also actively participated in its execution—shovels in hand, side by side, planting trees that will grow for decades.
Such activities build genuine connections—both among employees and between the company and the local community. They also show that business can and should be part of the solution, not just a passive observer of environmental problems.
Zaspa – A Space Full of Potential
Zaspa is a unique district in Gdańsk—with dense buildings, a rich history, and great potential for greening. The choice of this location was deliberate. The newly planted trees are expected to genuinely improve the quality of life for residents, support the local microclimate, and contribute to creating a more sustainable and friendly city. We want Gdańsk’s residents not only to observe change but to actively take part in it.
The Future Starts Today
Our goal as a Foundation is not only to plant trees, but above all to build environmental awareness and engage communities and companies in joint action for the environment.
The initiative with S&P Global is an example of a collaboration that brings real results—ecological, social, and educational. We are pleased to see more and more companies committing to long-term and responsible engagement, whose effects will be felt by generations to come.
