Planting 4,000 crocuses with S&P Global in Gdańsk on 15 September 2025

On 15 September, Oliwa Park in Gdańsk became a space for collective action in support of urban greenery.
Together with employees of S&P Global, we planted as many as 4,000 purple crocus bulbs, which will transform part of the park into a colorful, vibrant space in early spring.

The initiative was part of an employee volunteering program that brought together people from different teams around a shared goal – providing real support for nature in the city. Planting crocuses became an opportunity for conversation, cooperation and spending time together outdoors, away from desks and daily routines.

Employee Volunteering as Real Support for Nature

Employee volunteering is not only about hands-on work, but also about the chance to engage directly in actions that have a long-term impact on the surrounding environment. In Oliwa Park, the joint effort of many people translated into a change that will gradually become a permanent part of the city’s landscape.

Working together encourages relationship-building, experience-sharing and a sense of agency. It is a moment when environmental actions move beyond theory and become practice – simple, understandable and accessible to everyone.

Why Crocuses Matter in the City

Crocuses are among the first flowers to bloom after winter.
Their early flowering is especially important for pollinating insects, which begin their activity at that time. In urban environments, where natural food sources are limited, such plantings provide real support for local biodiversity.

In addition to their ecological value, crocuses also play an important aesthetic role. In spring, they attract the attention of residents and visitors alike, bringing color and life back to the park after the winter months.

Effects That Take Time

Although the planted bulbs are not yet visible today, processes are already underway underground that will produce clear results in spring. This is an example of actions whose outcomes are not immediate, but are lasting and long-term.

Such initiatives teach patience and show that caring for nature is a process. Every planted bulb is a small step that, over time, adds up to a meaningful and visible change in the city’s public space.

Cooperation That Transforms Urban Space

We would like to thank S&P Global for their commitment, energy and willingness to act together. This initiative is another example of how cooperation between companies and environmental organizations can effectively support nature and improve the quality of life in cities.

Joint efforts for urban greenery show that responsibility for our surroundings is something that can – and should – be shared.
